Judy

"Ok, the guests are going to be here any minute. I've got Dixie plates and those little wienies... Oh damn! I know I've forgotten something..."

"Oh f$^%$!!! I left the deviled eggs at Darlene's!!!"

Don't ask, Myles. Just tilt back your head, open your mouth, and laugh loudly and laugh obnoxiously. Like I am doing.

So Brothers K is a book with the backdrop of a Washington St. baseball family, and the paths the children take as they grow up, and the history, life and times of mom and dad. Kind of a story with the same scale as East of Eden (except there is only one family) and instead of the narrative and what happens being such a beautiful tale, its more about the artistry. At least to me. David James Duncan, the dude that writes it, is all about painting a page full of words in a way that blows my frikkin mind. On a down-side, I could see how if a). you hate baseball, or b). you don't care for literature exploring world religions, especially Eastern religions, ie. Taoism, Buddhism and Islam, then c). you may get hung up by the colors he uses and therefore not dig the whole painting. And it's a massive, complex and truthful painting. Mostly. Oh, and then throw the readibility of John Irving in there, too. That is my description of the Brothers K, and I hope it will suffice. Keep on playing that rag-time, seaner
